Gregg Chiropractic Life Centers Shares Tips on Proper Workplace Ergonomics

If you are suffering from back pain, neck pain, or muscle strain due to sitting too long or using a keyboard improperly, then proper ergonomics is a solution. The American Industrial Hygiene Association explains that poor workplace conditions can lead to pain and injury. This results in reduced employee productivity, which in turn causes you to suffer from a loss of income and potentially a permanent disability. To protect yourself from suffering from a workplace injury, our chiropractor at Gregg Chiropractic Life Centers in Troy, MI is here to discuss proper workplace ergonomics.

How Can I Improve the Ergonomics of My Workspace?

Focusing on the space around you, the National Safety Council recommends placing all office tools, such as staplers, that you use often closer to you. This reduces repetitive use when reaching for the item while also shaving time off of these tasks. You can also reduce muscle strain caused by overextending your muscles to reach for these objects when they are too far. The most common example of a repetitive use work injury in the office setting is carpal tunnel syndrome.

What Are Ergonomic Practices for Using a Computer?

Start with upgrading your mouse for your computer. Choose a stationary mouse that eliminates movement and pressure in your wrist. Opt for a keyboard that is slanted to the curvature of your hands when typing. For your desktop or laptop screen, ideally, it will be positioned so that you can look straight ahead at the screen. You want to avoid bending or craning your neck to be able to see the screen. A tip for shopping for these types of items is to look for products branded as ergonomic.
